Embedding swf files?

Postby Arxanas on Sun Sep 06, 2009 7:56 pm

So say I have a local .swf file, and a .swf on a server, and I want to load the server file into the local file (so if multiple people used it, I could update everything without them having to download something new). I want to know how to do this in both as2 and as3 (I searched on Google and found nothing of importance).
Also, do you need some sort of cross-site xml file?

I don't know about AS2 but I think that you could load it with the loader class in AS3, you might need some security... things to get it to work though.

That's why adobe has livedocs.
But seriously, don't you own Essential ActionScript 3.0? It's well worth the money.

I HATE livedocs.

And I own some AS3 books, but I learned it mostly from the Avoider Game tutorials.

The documentation tells me everything I need to know. LiveDocs works fine for me.
There's a way to embed (using metatags) SWFs but I cannot remember how.

The most irksome part is that it's online. I'm often out of the country/without internet, so online help is no good whatsoever.

Still, I think Flash 8 and 9 came with a .chm with help. Now that was useful (it's also how I picked up my AS2).

Oh yeah, from what I've heard CS4's help sucks. I wasn't debating that :D

There's an app called "Doc?" that has a neat interface for accessing the Flash help (all offline). Trouble is, it's really hard to find because of its stupid, stupid name.
